Wang Dan (February 26, 1969 -), originally from Juancheng County, Shandong Province, was born in Beijing. He is one of the leaders of the Tiananmen 1989 Democracy Movement in Beijing. He is equivalent to Wuer Kaixi and Chai Ling as student leaders. The deputy commander of the Tiananmen Square Headquarters is also a poet. Before the 1989 Student Movement, he organized activities to mourn Hu Yaobang, the former General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, who died of illness, and wrote articles in support of democracy. After the June Fourth Movement, he refused to escape. He was arrested and imprisoned by the government of the People’s Republic of China many times. Doctor of History from Harvard University. He currently lives in Taiwan, the United States and other places, and is a guest expert at National Cheng Kung University, participating in the school's development of the "International First-Class University and Top Research Center Program". Since September 2010, he has served as a visiting assistant professor at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, National Tsinghua University. Since August 2015, he has been employed as a visiting assistant professor at the Institute of Strategic and International Affairs of National Chung Cheng University for a period of 2 years. He left Taiwan in July 2017 and returned to the United States.
