Fang Zheng, born in Hefei, Anhui, China, graduated from the Beijing Institute of Physical Education in 1989, a pro-democracy activist in the June 4th incident.

At 6 o'clock in the morning on June 4, 1989, he evacuated from Tiananmen Square along West Chang'an Avenue. In order to save a school girl, he was crushed by a tank and broken his legs. In 1992, he won the men's javelin and discus championship at the National Games for the Disabled in the People's Republic of China. After that, he went to Haikou until 2000 and worked as a real estate agent and a tour guide successively.

In early 2009, Fang Zheng, with the help of Feng Congde, Zhou Fengsuo and others, came to San Francisco to apply for political asylum, and was soon awarded the Free Speech Fighter Award by the Los Angeles Visual Artists Association. On May 31, 2012, he arrived in Hong Kong under the sponsorship of the Hong Kong Stake. On June 4, he participated in the June 4th Candlelight Gala in Victoria Park to witness history. Fang Zheng is the chairman of the China Democracy Education Foundation and serves as the convener and spokesperson of the preparatory group for the resumption of the "Tiananmen Democratic University".
